As you may have gathered if youa??ve been reading my posts, I am NOT a fan of struggling with food and diets.
I believe that eating keto is all about finding freedom with food.
Being able to eat until satiety, enjoying your food, and finding your perfect health and weight.
But I do know that some people embark on the keto diet with all kinds of high expectations of both themselves and the way they eat.
And before they know it, rather than it being an enjoyable and restorative experience, keto becomes yet another ball and chain way of eating which inevitably leads to failure.
So here are the top 3 things that Ia??ve found can start this downward spiral, and how to avoid falling into these traps.
Obsessing Over Macros and/or Calories
Although ita??s important to get familiar with the keto macros so you know how to eat to stay in ketosis, ita??s easy to become a little obsessed with getting them perfectly right every day. (I know, Ia??ve been there!)
The same goes for calories. Perhaps youa??ve calculated how many calories you need to eat each day in order to lose weight. And again, while this may be helpful, especially if youa??re a little out of touch with portion sizes or your natural hunger signals, it can spiral into a bit of an obsession if youa??re not careful.
The bottom line is, it is possible to eat keto without counting calories or macros! Once you know what a basic keto meal looks like, you can start eyeballing your meals in order to know whether youa??re getting the right proportions of everything in.
You dona??t have to be perfect every day.
Some days youa??ll want to eat more, and others, less. Some days you may want more proteins. Some days you may want more fats.
I suggest starting to practice trusting yourself with your meals once you have an idea of what your macros look like. Practice checking in with your hunger levels, your energy and how you are feeling as opposed to the calculator or app!
Feeling Like Youa??re Missing Out
This feeling is purely a state of mind. When youa??re eating keto you are not missing out at all! There are so many beautifully delicious foods and recipes that are ketoa?? including plenty of desserts and snacks!
Ita??s usually pretty easy to eat out on keto too. Just order some meat, some veg and an extra helping of butter or mayonnaise to go on top! Enjoy being with your friends and loved onesa?? this is the true pleasure of eating out.
If you feel you are missing out, you could even go right ahead and eat whatever it is that you think youa??re missing out on. Perhaps ita??s chocolate biscuits, bread, sweets, or whatever.
Once youa??ve eaten it, you would soon realise that you werena??t really missing out on anything. In fact, ita??s when you were regularly eating these things you were truly missing out a?? missing out on feeling light and energetic and in control of your food!
Not Losing Weight as Fast as You Hoped You Would
Oh this is a biggie.
There are a lot of brilliant success stories where women lose a lot of weight in a short period of time. There are, however, also a lot of equally successful stories that are of women losing weight slowly and steadily, or in fits and starts, or experiencing weight loss stalls before finally hitting their target weight.
Eating keto is about eating for health. As Ia??m always saying, your body will heal itself before it gets rid of excess weight.
Dona??t compare your weight loss to others.
Have faith that when you give your body the best nutrients and plenty of them, it will do what it needs to do. And you will find your perfect weight balance at the right time for you.
Dona??t spend your time analysing the scales. Get out there and live and enjoy your life!
This is why you have chosen to get healthy and lose weight after alla??. so you can live your life to the full.
